The chartered surveyor has hired four senior members of staff to its valuation team, all of whom formerly worked at Atlas One.

Atlas One was a Wilmslow-based company which ceased trading in September. At Eddisons, each person has been hired into an equivalent role. Matt Silas and James Stavely who headed Atlas One are directors, Dan Sidlow is an associate director and Thomas Sztejer is a senior surveyor.

The four will join the Manchester-based valuation department and work with lenders and property across the North of England.

Eddisons has announced the acquisition of Ernest Wilson, a market leading business transfer agent.

Based in West Yorkshire and operating across the UK, Ernest Wilson was established in 1956 and has been owned for the past 50 years by Robert Williamson and more recently managed by his son Paul. The business has 24 employees and is led by an experienced and well-regarded management team, who will join Eddisons and be responsible for the ongoing management and development of the business.

In the last financial year Ernest Wilson sold 370 businesses ranging from food outlets and convenience stores to care homes, restaurants and hotels.

Eddisons colleague prepares for 500km cycle route to raise £14,000 for charity

Gearing up for Bloodwise UK – London to Paris

Joseph Fitzsimmons, Associate Director at Eddisons, part of the Building & Project Consultancy team, is preparing for his next cycling challenge.

Hosted by Everlast Group, a valued partner of Eddisons, Joseph will join six seasoned cyclists on the four-day ride which will commence on 19th September 2019.

Fighting for a cause close to his heart – Joe lost his father-in-law to cancer one month ago – he is embarking on this gruelling journey to raise money for Bloodwise UK, the UK’s leading blood cancer research charity.

The physically demanding route requires months of preparation as it will test the body for physical endurance and require patience as the riders soar through the cobbled streets of London and through the iconic Parisian landmark of the Champs-Élysées.

Joseph said: “I’m expecting my biggest challenge over the four days to be the terrain variances as we ride over the bumpy hills of Dover and across the flat land in Paris.

“As I’ll be cycling as part of a peloton, the average speed is 14 mph, so this will be a challenge to maintain in unfamiliar territory, but I intend to cycle until the finish line.”

In preparation for the event which will see the riders cycle over 100km a day, Joseph has taken up an extended cycling route to work made up of over 30 miles.

He added: “To train my body for the physical pressure, I’ve been cycling 100 miles a week, scaling the hills of Yorkshire in preparation for the event.

“The ambitious goal of cycling to Paris will be an unforgettable and worthwhile experience as we aim to raise £14,000 to fight the third biggest cancer killer through Bloodwise”.

Huntingdon surveyor is ‘outstanding’ in his field

Huntingdon surveyor is ‘outstanding’ in his field

A surveyor in the Huntingdon office of Barker Storey Matthews – now part of Eddisons – has been recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and rewarded for his outstanding achievement on graduating this summer.

Matthew Hunt, the former trainee and now graduate surveyor at the property agency’s Huntingdon office, was awarded first class honours in Real Estate by Birmingham City University and won the RICS – the industry’s professional body – prize for ‘Outstanding Achievement at Undergraduate Level’ for attaining the highest overall mark on the degree course for his work, which included a dissertation on the upgrading of the A14 trunk road and its effect on the local commercial property market.

Matthew joined Barker Storey Matthews in 2014 and has successfully combined his degree studies, part time, with full time employment as a trainee surveyor at the firm’s Huntingdon office.

Commenting on Matthew’s graduation, Richard Adam, Director and Head of Agency at Barker Storey Matthews’ Huntingdon office, said, “To combine part time study so successfully with the demands of full time employment is an achievement in itself and for this Matthew is to be commended.

“However, to also achieve recognition from the RICS at this stage of his career is a testament to Matthew’s talents in his chosen professional field.

“Undoubtedly, Matthew’s hands-on commercial knowledge of the Huntingdon area fed in to his studies and his dissertation.  In turn, his dissertation about the strategic importance of the A14 improvements and the business opportunities for the Huntingdon area gives academic insight, adding value to the services we offer to our clients.

“We are proud of all Matthew’s achievements since he joined Barker Storey Matthews and he is an asset to the firm.”

Matthew will continue to study and train towards the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), a globally recognised qualification which is acknowledged as a marque of excellence and professional competence in the property sector.

Eddisons triathlon team raise £5,000 for Yorkshire mental health charity

The building and project consultancy team at Eddisons has raised over £5,000 for the charity Leeds Mind.

The 13 strong team, headed by director Ian Harrington, all completed the 420m swim, 24km cycle and 4.6km run in terrific  times at the Harrogate Triathlon on 11 May, after a training programme that involved lunchtime and after?work group training sessions over several weeks.

Ian Harrington said: “It was fantastic to see everyone coming together from across our Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester offices for such a great cause. Our day jobs are all about managing detailed building and fit?out projects for clients so this was a really different challenge.

“Leeds Mind does terrific work in raising awareness of mental health and supporting people with mental health issues . They have strong links with employers and peer groups within the region and are a fantastic resource for those needing dedicated help’’

It has been particularly poignant to our team mate, colleague and friend Joseph Fitzsimmons who sadly lost his sister last year and as a result wanted to raise money for mental health awareness.

He added: “We were all proud of ourselves that we finished in such a respectable time but even prouder that we have been able to raise £5,000 for this fantastic charity. Mental health is something that we all need to think more about and the sooner we can remove the stigma that has always surrounded it the better.”

Today the Eddisons’ Machinery and Business Assets team are attending the Tube and Steel Fair in Istanbul, Turkey.

Charles Moses, Director of our Plant and Machinery Assets business, will be meeting our global manufacturing clients face to face, to discuss their asset valuation and disposal needs.

The Tube and Steel Fair in Turkey is a Global Steel Exhibition, including over 80 countries with industries like construction, food processing, aerospace and energy as key attendees.

Eddisons’ stand is in Hall 2, which focuses on Tube and Profile Manufacturers.

Eddisons secures £20m to improve 48 schools across UK

 

Property consultant Eddisons has secured a total of £20m in funding to improve buildings at 48 schools across the UK. The capital funding, obtained via the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) programme, will be used to enhance school and sixth form college buildings and improve safety and energy efficiency.

The CIF is an annual bidding scheme that enables academy schools and colleges to apply for funding for the upkeep of their buildings, and to fund expansion projects for schools that have been rated good or outstanding by Ofsted.

Eddisons’ Leeds, Newcastle, and Manchester-based project consultancy division specialises in securing CIF funding for schools and has seen a £5m increase in successful bids for 2019, up from £15m in 2018. The team has also been appointed to design and project manage the safe delivery of all the successful applications.

Ian Harrington, who heads Eddisons building and project consultancy team, said: “We are really proud of our success rate for this year’s round of CIF bids, announced just last week, with 55 successful bids in total across the UK.

“Education is a key sector for us at Eddisons and one where we are seeing growing demand for our services. We are continuing to expand our team and are focused on doing the best job we can for our school and college clients.

He added: “It is tremendously rewarding to be able to guide schools through the maze of the CIF bidding process and as we are involved throughout the process we see the tremendous difference that these improvements can make to a whole school community.”

Eddisons has also secured £1m in Urgent Capital Support funding for UK schools in need of emergency repair projects this year. The firm is also working with schools and colleges to help them secure funding from the £25m Salix fund for projects that improve energy efficiency.

Eddisons has secured a total of £20m in funding to improve buildings at 48 schools across the UK.

Leading national property consultancy, Eddisons, has today confirmed the acquisition of Barker Storey Matthews (BSM) one of the largest independent chartered surveying firms in Eastern England.

BSM was recently ranked the overall winner for Eastern England in the EG Deals Competition 2018 (‘EG’) for commercial property agents and acquisition will see the experienced 38-strong team integrate with the current Eddisons team.

Eddisons will also expand its national office network to 20 by incorporating BSM’s premises in Cambridge, Huntingdon, Peterborough and Bury St Edmunds, further strengthening the company’s ability to deliver specialist property services on nationally.

BSM is a multi-disciplinary practice and delivers services consistent with those offered by the existing Eddisons business, including commercial property agency, property management, building consultancy, professional services (including valuations) and planning services.

The BSM deal marks the second acquisition of 2019 for Eddisons.

Eddisons Appointed for Fire Safety Works – Lincoln Castle Academy

Eddisons were appointed by Lincoln Castle Academy to produce an Urgent Capital Support ( UCS ) funding bid following a fire safety audit undertaken by Lincolnshire fire authority under the Regulatory Reform ( Fire Safety ) Order 2005.

The proposed life safety works include for the installation of new fire doors, fire compartmentation within ceiling voids and a new fire alarm system with emergency lighting.

The project will also include for the removal of localised asbestos containing materials that have been identified as part of the works.

Eddisons Building and Project team will be Project Managing the scheme on behalf of the academy ensuring that the works are safely delivered whilst causing minimum disruption to the operation of the school.

UCS funding is available to non Schools Capital Allocation (SCA) funded academies who can demonstrate urgent health and safety issues, structural problems, asbestos concerns and mechanical & electrical issues within their school estate.

Eddisons Education Team have the technical knowledge and expertise needed to submit and deliver successful UCS bids for non SCA academies.
