A former metal recycling yard site in Corby is to become the first East Midlands site for an Essex-based waste management company as the firm looks to expand countrywide.
Phoenix Environmental offers comprehensive licensed and accredited commercial waste services ranging from clinical waste disposal, hazardous waste disposal, skip hire and rubbish removal, among others. They acquired the Arkwright Road site on Corby’s Willowbrook Industrial Estate in a deal where Eddisons acted on behalf of the seller.
The business also has other leased sites in Hampshire and Essex. However, by purchasing the Corby site, the company wants to make the location its main headquarters from which it can expand its operations across the UK.
Harry Hodson, who co-founded the business in the waste disposal sector six and half years ago, at only 23 years old, and is Phoenix Environmental’s Managing Director, confirmed that the company had identified the East Midlands for its base - and Corby in particular - two years ago and had set its sights set on the Arkwright Road site as soon as the former metal recycling yard came to the open market through Eddisons.
He explained, “Corby, and the wider East Midlands, is so well positioned for us, in terms of extensive indigenous client base potential, as well as connectivity to the rest of the country. It offers us a labour pool with the skill sets and experience we seek and we’ve already hired two members of staff, locally.
“It’s a default location for us as we expand our operations across the UK.”
Kettering Director Gilbert Harvey led the negotiations on the sale of the Arkwright Road site on behalf of the previous owner. While unable to confirm the final sale price achieved, he did confirm the 2.19-acre site was marketed for sale at £1.5 million.
He added, “There’s a limited market for the sale of a site with such an industrial heritage, but Phoenix Environmental couldn’t be more suited as its new owner. It’s a real vote of confidence in the area, that a young, successful business from the South has looked to Corby for its new HQ.”
