Jacob Hage, a Building Surveyor in our Lincoln Building and Project Consultancy team, has graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a First Class Honours degree in Building Surveying, and has been awarded the CABE Best Final Year Apprentice Student Award 2026.
The degree took five years, with the last two spent on the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship.
From placement year to apprenticeship
Jacob began on the Building Surveying BSc (Hons) with Sandwich Year course, spending his year in industry on placement with BTG Eddisons to gain practical experience. Following a successful placement, he moved onto the degree apprenticeship for the final two years of study, combining academic learning with professional practice throughout.
The programme covered a broad range of building surveying disciplines, including modules such as Heritage and Conservation, Building Pathology, and Building Surveying Practice, among many others, providing a well-rounded understanding of the built environment.. A placement that goes well can shorten the distance between student and practitioner, and Jacob's route shows how a year with BTG Eddisons can lead into a longer commitment to the profession.
Results and recognition
Jacob's final year brought three results: the first-class degree, the CABE award, and a share in the Best Final Year Group Project 2026 prize, presented by the Mining Remediation Authority. Combining study with practice is a harder way to earn a degree than study alone, which makes a first and two awards worth noting.
Congratulations to Jacob on the degree and both awards!
