BTG Eddisons has been instructed to market a Grade II listed former courthouse and police station in Milton Keynes.
The Old Court House, at 19 Market Square, occupies a prominent position in the historic Buckinghamshire town of Stony Stratford. Offers around £650,000 for the freehold are invited.
The two-storey red-brick building dates from the 1860’s and was originally constructed as a police station and courthouse for petty sessions, housing a courtroom, magistrates’ chambers and holding cells and now offers office accommodation arranged over two floors.
Senior surveyor Nick Bosworth, of BTG Eddisons in Milton Keynes, said: “The Old Court House is a distinctive property in a prominent position at the heart of Stony Stratford, combining an interesting history with an established town-centre location.
“Buildings of this character rarely come to the market, and the property could appeal to buyers looking for an individual office building or an opportunity to explore its potential for an alternative use, subject to the necessary planning and listed building consents. With its historic setting, local amenities and good transport links, it represents an opportunity to acquire a character property in one of Milton Keynes’ best-known historic towns.”
The 2,548 sq ft accommodation comprises a mixture of open-plan and cellular offices, with kitchenettes and WC facilities on both floors. The specification includes gas-fired radiator central heating, perimeter trunking, recessed spot and surface-mounted strip lighting, together with smoke, fire and intruder alarms.
Its prominent Market Square location places the property among a range of national and independent retailers, cafés, pubs and restaurants, including Costa Coffee, Nationwide and Tesco Express. Car parking is available directly outside the property on the Market Square, and the property also benefits from access to the A5 and mainline railway stations at Wolverton and Milton Keynes. Central Milton Keynes is a short drive away.
The building is Grade II listed, reflecting its architectural and historic interest as part of Stony Stratford’s heritage. Its distinctive red-brick elevations and period detailing provide a reminder of its original civic role in the town.
