What is the Great British Energy Community Fund?
The Great British Energy Community Fund (GBECF) is designed to help local communities transition to sustainable energy solutions, promoting greater control of their energy needs, reducing carbon footprints and creating a greener future for all.
£5 million worth of funding is available to projects across the UK, with five Net Zero Hubs responsible for delivering the programme on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to have feasibility studies and specified development work fully funded.
"Our plans will mean more money can be spent on the services that make working people better off and help strengthen the ties that bind us in our communities."

How does GBECF funding work?
Up to £140,000 is available for each project. The funding is split into two stages, depending on your needs.
Stage 1 – Feasibility Grant
£40,000 is available to communities exploring the possibility of a renewable energy project that meets the GBECF criteria. The capital can cover consultancy and professional costs associated with developing a feasibility study.
Stage 2 – Development Grant
Up to £100,000 worth of funding can be claimed for projects that demonstrate a good chance of implementation and securing planning permission. Some uses of this funding include investing in the possible purchase of land, environmental impact assessments, planning and permitting application submissions, and the development of a full investment business plan.
