Project
As part of the wider regeneration of Lincoln’s city centre, Eddisons facilitated the relocation of McDonald’s from its longstanding premises in the Cornhill Quarter to a larger, more modern unit on the High Street.
The move was a strategic one, benefitting both the client and the overall progress of the Cornhill Quarter redevelopment - a landmark project for which Eddisons continues to provide development consultancy, site assembly, project management and lettings expertise.
Approach
The leisure agency team at Eddisons led negotiations with McDonald’s, securing their move to the former HMV building: an attractive, listed property on Lincoln’s bustling High Street.
This relocation was made possible through close coordination with all parties involved, including HMV, who themselves moved into a newly completed unit within the Cornhill Quarter. The revamped McDonald’s site now boasts modern features, such as digital self-order kiosks, increased seating capacity, and improved visibility thanks to its prominent frontage.
Results
The relocation was completed successfully during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, an especially challenging time for the hospitality sector.
Despite these difficulties, the new McDonald’s has created additional jobs and enhanced the customer experience in the city centre. Franchisee James Thompson commented:
“It’s a fabulous opportunity for the staff, but also the customers. It is an improved location, the storefront is more visible, and it’s a beautiful listed building.”
Meanwhile, the original Cornhill site has been released for the next phase of regeneration, making way for additional premium retail and leisure occupiers as part of this multi-million-pound city centre transformation.
