Refurbishment and energy efficiency improvements to industrial unit

BTG Eddisons was appointed to deliver the design, project management, contract administration and Principal Designer services for the comprehensive refurbishment of a 180,000 sq ft industrial and office building on Southgate Way, Orton Southgate, Peterborough.

The project involved upgrading both the internal and external elements of the property while improving its energy performance and delivering the works within a 22-week programme.

Working across the full refurbishment programme, our team, based in Peterborough, managed the project from initial design through to completion. The works included extensive upgrades to the building envelope, loading bays, office accommodation, reception areas and staff welfare facilities, alongside improvements to external yards and plant areas.

Throughout the project, the team coordinated contractors, managed programme and cost, and fulfilled Principal Designer duties, ensuring health and safety requirements were maintained while keeping the wider site operational. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing the building's long-term performance through modern materials, upgraded infrastructure and energy-efficient improvements.

The refurbishment was successfully completed within the 22-week programme and delivered a significantly enhanced industrial and office facility with a contract value of approximately £1.3 million.

The project transformed the building into a modern, high-quality commercial asset, including refurbished office accommodation, upgraded loading facilities and improved staff amenities. Alongside the physical improvements, the building's EPC rating increased from D to B, providing a more energy-efficient and attractive property for future occupiers.
