A University of Cambridge spin-out company that has pioneered a proprietary process for turning waste concrete into reusable cement has taken on an additional 2,411 sq ft of operational space at one of the city’s few centrally located industrial sites.
Confirmation of the letting of Unit 3 at Coldham’s Road Industrial Estate to Reclinker comes from BTG Eddisons who acted as joint agents with Bidwells on behalf of the landlord.
Unit 5 at Coldham’s Road Industrial Estate was Reclinker’s first spin-out location in 2024 when the firm received initial venture capital investment. Its expansion, in taking on Unit 3, comes at the same time as the company securing £10 million of new investment through its latest funding round.
With Reclinker’s process and technology already proven on an industrial scale and its first commercial sales confirmed after trials at 7 Steel UK’s Cardiff plant, Bill Yost, CEO, Reclinker, believes it’s important for the company to retain a Cambridge presence at this stage of its growth.
He said, “The company’s rapid growth is going according to plan and our latest oversubscribed funding round sends a strong signal that UK investors are serious about decarbonisation.
“Our proprietary process for producing sustainable cement is, by its very nature, heavily industrial and there aren’t too many locations in and around Cambridge that are suitable for such uses. We looked at a couple of industrial units further out of Cambridge but we wanted to stay close to the city centre and our existing operation.
“We are recruiting to add to our current Cambridge core staff - and have already scaled from 10 to a headcount of 15 at this stage - at the same time that we are scaling-up production at our co-location in Cardiff.”
Ben Green, Director, Property Agency, BTG Eddisons, added, “Coldham’s Road is one of only a handful of centrally located industrial districts within the Cambridge city boundary.
“It’s an established industrial/trade counter location but Reclinker’s ongoing success and expansion has definitely brought something new to the Estate.”
