BTG Eddisons was appointed by The Police Treatment Centre in Harrogate to help reduce operational overheads and accelerate its journey toward net zero. With a legacy dating back to 1897, the Centre continues its mission of supporting injured and unwell police officers, and is now strengthening that commitment through sustainable, resilient operations.
Our Building & Project Consultancy team led the commission from the outset, undertaking a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the full range of renewable energy technologies suitable for the estate. Through detailed modelling and cost–benefit analysis, a bespoke solar PV solution emerged as the most effective option, delivering strong performance, excellent value for money, and clear alignment with the Centre's long-term sustainability objectives.
Approach
Following the feasibility stage, we managed a competitive procurement process and oversaw the entire delivery phase.
Working in a live clinical environment required meticulous planning and coordination. Our team worked closely with the Centre to schedule all activities around the safety and wellbeing of patients and staff, with works completed outside core hours and supported by clear, consistent communication throughout.
The completed 125 kWp solar PV installation spans five buildings and ten roof faces, maximising on-site generation across the estate. As part of the works, we liaised with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to secure G99 approval and installed an export power management system, providing the Centre with real-time monitoring of solar generation and grid consumption.
The project was delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of workmanship.
Results
The solar PV system generates 105,000 kWh of renewable electricity each year, reducing annual carbon emissions by around 48,000 kg. Financially, the Centre is now achieving operational savings of approximately £5,000 per month, strengthening its long-term resilience and supporting progress against its net zero roadmap.
