Project
BTG Eddisons were appointed by Tritax to deliver the detailed design for the strategic road network and off-site highway works associated with the proposed Symmetry Park mixed-use development, located adjacent to Junction 25 of the M6 motorway in Wigan, Greater Manchester.
The development comprises approximately 140 acres of consented B8 land, delivering up to 133,966 sqm of gross internal floorspace for storage, distribution and ancillary office uses. The scheme also includes extensive landscaping and planting to integrate the development into its surrounding environment.
Approach
BTG Eddisons were commissioned to undertake the detailed design of all off-site highway works required to facilitate the safe and effective operation of the development.
The scope included new access arrangements and wider connectivity improvements on the Wigan adopted highway network, ensuring appropriate provision for all modes of transport, including pedestrians and cyclists.
The project required careful coordination and ongoing liaison with multiple stakeholders, including National Highways, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Wigan Council, to develop, agree and secure approval of the highway works.
In addition, BTG Eddisons led engagement with National Highways to design and deliver improvement works on the M6 Junctions 24 and 25 slip roads, including the signalisation of the M6 J25 slip road, ensuring compliance with strategic road network standards and operational requirements.
Results
Once complete, the development is expected to support up to 1,650 permanent jobs, alongside approximately 1,200 jobs during the construction phase.
The logistics park will provide a significant boost to the North West's growing logistics sector, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting long-term economic growth.

"Delivering highway design for a development of this scale requires careful coordination with multiple regulatory bodies and a deep understanding of strategic road network standards. We were pleased to support Tritax in creating transport infrastructure that will serve the North West's logistics sector for years to come."
