In 2020, well-known Lincoln venue The Drill was forced to close due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and a subsequent significant loss of funding. When Lincoln College Group took over in 2021, they appointed Eddisons to help revitalise the historic space and bring it up to modern standards.
Approach
We procured a full design team and managed the tender process to carry out key upgrades across the venue. Works included refurbishing the entrance foyer and bar, as well as upgrading the kitchen and dining facilities. A full mechanical and electrical overhaul introduced a new lighting scheme, which was designed to enhance the atmosphere and visitor experience. Repairs were also carried out in the auditorium and performance areas, where water damage had left the space unusable.
Results
The Drill reopened as a vibrant community venue in 2021 and continues to host a busy programme of live performances. The building’s character has been preserved, while upgrades have aligned it with modern expectations and legislation. The project has helped secure the venue’s long-term future as a key figure in Lincoln’s cultural scene.
