Property Support Engineer (Southend-on-Sea)

The role 

The Engineer is responsible for securing, maintaining, and preparing vacant and occupied properties on behalf of clients. This field-based role involves extensive travel across the region, attending multiple sites each day to carry out property security and maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include alarm installation (wireless alarms, no electrical work involved) and maintenance, utility isolation, property boarding, and general security works to ensure properties remain safe, secure, and compliant.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, test, maintain, and remove temporary intruder alarms and security systems
  • Switch off utility services, including electrical power, water, and gas where required and authorised
  • Board up doors, windows, and other access points to secure vacant properties
  • Carry out on-site inspections and report on any issues identified
  • Fit and maintain temporary security measures, including shutters, barriers, and fencing
  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance works to ensure properties remain secure and presentable
  • Travel extensively between sites, often covering large geographical areas and spending significant time driving
  • Plan and manage daily routes efficiently to meet client service requirements
    Complete job reports, photographs, and documentation accurately and promptly
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations and company procedures
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order
  • Liaise professionally with clients, tenants, contractors, and members of the public
  • Occasional overnight stays will be required depending on workload and the location of client sites
  • Overnight accommodation will be arranged by the company, and a subsistence allowance will be provided in line with company policy

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience in a hands-on maintenance, property services, facilities management, or handyman role
  • Strong practical skills and the ability to use a variety of tools and equipment
  • Basic understanding of electrical and property maintenance activities
  • Comfortable working independently and travelling extensively
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible approach to working hours, travel, and emergency call-outs

Desirable

  • Experience installing temporary alarm systems or security equipment, although full training will be provided and this is not essential
  • Knowledge of vacant property management, security services, or facilities management would be advantageous
  • First Aid, CSCS, or relevant health and safety qualifications

This is a highly mobile role involving considerable daily travel. Applicants should be comfortable driving long distances and attending multiple properties across a wide geographical area.
