We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Heat Decarbonisation Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing decarbonisation heat plans, addressing energy loss calculations, sizing up boilers and heat pumps, and contributing to various aspects of heat network design. This role involves a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to sustainable energy practices.

Role and Requirements

  • Develop comprehensive decarbonisation heat plans for various projects, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals
  • Conduct energy loss calculations and propose efficient solutions to minimize heat loss in heating systems
  • Size up boilers and heat pumps based on project requirements, considering energy efficiency and environmental impact
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of heat networks, integrating renewable energy sources and advanced technologies
  • Assist in preparing Distribution Network Operator (DNO) applications and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Review and assist with energy management, environmental sustainability and carbon reduction schemes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to oversee and manage decarbonisation schemes from inception to completion
  • Provide technical support to senior engineers, participating in project meetings and design reviews
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to heat decarbonisation and sustainable energy solutions

Experience

  • Ideally bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with a sustainability bias, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen interest in heat decarbonisation
  • Knowledge of energy loss calculations, boiler and heat pump sizing, and heat network design principles
  • Familiarity with DNO applications and regulatory frameworks related to sustainable energy projects
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience in relevant software tools for heat engineering and project management
  • Ideally a CIBSE certified Heat Network consultant with experience in the feasibility analysis and design of innovative, low carbon, generation 4 district heating networks meeting CIBSE CP1 and HNDU specification
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork
