What is the Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund?
The Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF) provides grants for public sector bodies to access green skills & expertise, which can allow them to decarbonise projects in their estate. The LCSF aims to fund decarbonisation initiatives, covering the entire process from conceptualization to RIBA Stage 3 and 4 designs.
Funding rounds are initiated on an annual or bi-annual basis, with bids for Phase 5 set to open on 17 April 2024. The LCSF will continue to cover the entire cost of plans, eliminating the need for any client contributions. However, unlike Phase 4, bids will no longer be issued on a first-come-first-served basis but will be assessed in a randomised order to ensure fairness.
How is LCSF used for Public Sector Decarbonisation?
The LCSF funds decarbonisation plans aimed to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the property. The fund is targeted at buildings that have a fossil fuel heating system in place and takes a whole building approach to decarbonisation.
