We Walked 100 Miles in Reindeer Antlers For Charity

Twenty six staff from the London office of Chartered Surveyors Eddisons eschewed their normal modes of transport on 20 December to walk home for charity.

The team took part in the ‘Walking Home for Christmas’ initiative supported by City A.M. newspaper in aid of ‘Walking with the Wounded’, the charity for ex-military personnel.

Setting off from Eddisons office in New Bridge Street, near Blackfriars Station in the City, the majority of the team trekked to Clapham Junction, a distance of just over seven miles, before completing their journeys in the more traditional way. One intrepid soul, Dan Regan, made his solitary 5.3-mile journey to Stratford on foot, an hour and 50 minutes’ walk. A small number headed north to Liverpool Street Station, a mile away. Some 100 miles were walked in total by the group.

Entering into the Christmas spirit, all 26 staff from the chartered surveying firm donned tinsel-strewn reindeer antlers and some also availed themselves of the free pint offered by Renaissance Pubs to those taking part. Apparently, there are six pubs run by this chain on the Clapham Junction route!

Eddisons pledged a total of £780 to the charity through individual registrations and plans to raise more through donations.

David Rowling, head of Eddisons London office, said: “Our 100 miles through the metropolis might seem paltry compared with the 200 miles in Antarctica that Prince Harry’s team trekked for the same cause. But, with the added challenge of negotiating a number of pubs en route, we threw ourselves into it with as much commitment and dedication as them!”
