A tax disc for the magical car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is among the lots being offered by Chartered Surveyors Eddisons in a special on-line auction of movie memorabilia.
The disc, complete with brass holder, was purchased by the film’s producers in August 1968 at a cost of £17.10 to facilitate on-road filming and shows the registration number XKX 758 F. The guide price is £700 to £1,000.
In the film, the flying car built by Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), carried the registration plate GEN II.
This iconic and rare piece of movie history is one of over 400 items from a private collection being put up for sale.
They include an elegant evening dress worn by Diana Rigg in Evil Under the Sun and Marlon Brando’s Equity Association Membership Card for 1973.
A wide choice of original design sketches produced by Edith Head, widely regarded as the most famous dress designer in Hollywood history, are also available, with guide prices starting from just £100.
The collection includes a significant number of vintage posters, produced to promote some of the best known films ever made, such as 42nd Street, Singing in the Rain, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Towering Inferno.
Peter Davies of Eddisons said: ‘This is a diverse collection of rare movie memorabilia, which have survived the passage of time.
‘Everybody has a favourite film and this collection covers some of the most famous and will appeal to enthusiasts and serious collectors alike.’
