Project
We were instructed by JW Electrical Services Limited (a subcontractor to the BT Group) to help relocate part of their operation to another part of the country. This facility was home of DABS.com, on Wingates Industrial Estate near Bolton. The brief meant that the building needed to be cleared back to the shell as the new owner wanted to use it as a cold storage facility.
Approach
We carried out an inspection of the plant, equipment and mezzanine floor, and recommended disposal of all the assets by way of our online auction system - which they had used previously to market certain sections of the plant, by private treaty.
The auctions included all the contents of the facility including carton erectors, roller and belt conveyors, label printers, UPS equipment, generators, and warehouse equipment.
We informed the client that we would undertake approximately 250 online auctions per year, and dispose of the full range of industrial equipment on a regular basis. Realisations from this method are generally strong since it allows bidders to participate from all over the world.
Results
The realisation from the online auctions was circa £100k, and vastly reduced the removal/disposal costs which, without our involvement, would have been incurred by the client. Our approach enabled the project to be completed within the client's desired 2 month timescale.
