Tasked with finding a buyer for land surplus to its requirements, Eddisons has sold a 0.65 acre plot adjacent to the Lepton Liberal and Working Man’s Club to a care home operator for a sum well in excess of the £350,000 guide price.
The Huddersfield-based commercial property agent was instructed by the Club’s trustees to sell the land on Wakefield Road and, after a short marketing period, it was bought by Aden House Ltd.
The Barnsley-based care home operator has since put in a planning application to build a new care home on the site. The company owns several other homes in the area.
Jason Metcalfe of Eddisons commented: “It’s quite apt that land, which was originally the site of a convalescent home for soldiers injured in the First World War, is going to be used for care purposes once again.”
The Club, which was formed in 1920 and has been housed in the former mansion house ever since, is to re-invest the proceeds of the sale into the club house.
