A Leeds church that was proving too costly to maintain, and was too large for its current congregation, has been sold by commercial property agent, Eddisons following a competitive bidding process.
Built in 1905, Farsley Baptist Church, on Priesthorpe Road, Farsley, was put on the market for £750,000 earlier this year.
Acting on behalf of the West Yorkshire Baptist Association, Eddisons quickly attracted a number of parties interested in purchasing the property, which benefited from full planning permission for conversion into twelve luxury apartments.
Paul Andrews of Eddisons’ commented; “The combination of the costs involved in maintaining such a large property and the fact the Farsley Baptist Church no longer needed such a large place of worship meant that the decision to sell up and buy smaller premises in the area was a relatively straightforward one for the Baptist Association to make.”
“As we expected when given the instruction, interest in the property was exceptionally high due to its location and suitability for residential redevelopment. And with it sitting in a conservation area I’m certain the redevelopment work will be sympathetically done and prove to be a boost to the local community.”
The church was sold to Byre Developments.
